The Do-It-Yourself Guide to Absentee Voting in Berkeley County
There are 2 ways to vote absentee:
Absentee by Mail

Absentee In-person
Absentee by Mail
Note: Once you request an absentee ballot, you have to vote using that ballot.
You cannot cast a regular ballot at the polls on election day.
You cannot bring your absentee ballot to turn in at the polls on election day.
You must return the absentee ballot via mail or by taking it to the election office or by taking it to a drop box. See Step 2 below for details.
Step 1 – Application
Request an application by phone
Call Berkeley County Board of Elections at (843) 719-4056.
Request an application by email

Submit an application online
- Go to scvotes.org.
2. Enter your information.
3. Verify your information and select your absentee voting reason. UPDATE: All voters are now qualified to vote absentee under the “State of Emergency” reason for the November 3 election only. (Please note: screenshot below was taken before this reason was added.)
4. Choose Democratic ballot and check the box for which election(s) you are voting absentee.
5. Print and sign the application.
6. Mail the signed application to:

They will mail you an absentee ballot starting approximately 30 days before election day.
